On Thursday, March 28th, the SUPREEMO project participated in the REESILIENCE Conference organised by The Global Rare Earth Industry Association (REIA) in Brussels.
The event gathered key stakeholders and research experts spanning the entire rare earth value chain, fostering insightful discussions and presentations. The central focus revolved around meeting the targets outlined in the Critical Raw Material Act by 2030, exploring technical, economic and ecological solutions to achieve these ambitious goals. Additionally, the conference aimed to promote sustainable practices that enhance the resilience and self-autonomy of the rare earth sector in Europe, ensuring its competitiveness in the global market.
Nader Akil (EU Business Operations Manager, PNO Innovation Belgium), presented the SUPREEMO project, the first initiative to create a sustainable and resilient pre-commercial European Rare Earth Elements (REEs) value chain.
Over four years, the consortium will establish the first pre-commercial rare earth elements production value chain (TRL7) by utilising Europe primary resources as feedstock. Additionally, SUPREEMO focuses on developing sustainable, cost-competitive processing, refining, and Rare Earth Permanent Magnet (PM) production technologies while adhering to rigorous local and international safety regulations. This strategic endeavor will significantly contribute to the attainment of ambitious targets, aiming for a 10% extraction and 40% processing of Critical Raw Materials by 2030.
